This webinar will re-situate art as an archetypal phenomenon rooted in and expressive of more than individuals at work in isolation. Instead, Dylan will articulate an indigenous perspective—one interconnected with depth psychological principles—that contextualizes art as a mediating, symbolic communication between us and our ongoing, creative relationship with our ancestry and the places we live. Attending to art as inseparable from history and land has ramifications for how we interpret it, what we do with it, and how we live with it as a medium inhabited by our ancestors and as a means of gaining rapport with the spirits of the earth we inhabit.

Dr. Dylan Hoffman teaches The Expressive Power of Archetypes course, along with Jung, Individuation, and the Symbolic Life for the Depth Psychology and Creativity (DCH) program. He is a core faculty member in the Jungian and Archetypal Studies program. He concentrates on the work of C. G. Jung in both programs—particularly the theory of archetypes, the symbolic life, and the nature of creativity. More specifically, Dylan integrates depth psychology with indigenous ways of knowing as complementary methods for perceiving and engaging with psyche as the soul of the world—expressive of an interrelational, creative, and enchanted cosmos.
